What’s the weirdest coincidence you’ve ever experienced?
I don’t believe in coincidence, but I have to say I have never had a prayer answered so quickly as the most I’m about to reference. On Christmas 2013, I went home to an empty house for the first time. My ex wife and I had separated, and the kids went with her that evening. I was alone between then and early January to pack up my belongings and hope there might be some trusted people from the church to help me move out of the parsonage. The depth of my loneliness was screaming one night as I basically felt forsaken. I was about to pray a prayer I wasn’t sure God would answer, especially as quickly as He did.
I had cried out many desperate pleas to God through the years in hopes that He would answer immediately. God answered this one as soon as it fell from my lips and heart. What was my prayer? “God, would You please have someone call me so I know I’m not forgotten?” The next second, my phone rang.
Some friends from South Carolina knew what I was going through and decided to call. We spent hours on the phone that night. Their call was just what I needed.
As a pastor, I have spent hours praying for others and believing God to restore, save, and work in the situations of others. Unfortunately, I have often believed God would be much more likely to answer the prayers of others than mine. I was reminded that night that God wanted to meet my needs too.
Call it coincidence if you will, but I call it a divine moment. For that moment, I will be forever grateful.
