Transparency from the heart of a pastor

Daily Bible Reading

What’s one habit that has improved your life the most?

The one habit that has most improved my life is daily Bible reading. I began a more intense reading plan last August. Pastor Kenny Baldwin from Northern Virginia does this, and I sensed the Lord wanted me to do the same. It will take you through the Bible twice in a year.

Five Old Testament chapters per day. This many chapters per day actually helps with continuity of thought, especially when reading narratives. The stories are much less choppy.

Two New Testament chapters per day. This provides a nice balance between the testaments.

Five chapters in the Psalms each day – 5 psalms + 30 days in a month covers the entire 150. When there are 31 days in a month, I will save Psalm 119 for that day since it has 176 verses.

One chapter in Proverbs per day – Almost all 31 chapters are covered every month. These proverbs provide so much wisdom.

While I don’t recommend this plan for everyone, it has blessed my life immensely. I have no regrets for filling my mind and heart with the Word of God.

One response to “Daily Bible Reading”

  1. Thank you, Pastor Matthew, for sharing this inspiring testimony. Daily Bible reading truly transforms our hearts, renews our minds, and strengthens our walk with Christ. I appreciate how you’ve emphasized reading both the Old and New Testaments, along with Psalms and Proverbs, to gain a balanced understanding of God’s Word. As Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Thank you for encouraging believers to cultivate a deeper love for Scripture. May God continue to bless your ministry and use your faithfulness to inspire many others to treasure His Word every day.
