What’s something you used to believe as a kid that seems ridiculous now?
Traditionally, we are told that Santa comes down a chimney. The story works great when you have a chimney. When I was 8 years old, we moved to an apartment. That Christmas, I asked my mother how Santa would come through since we no longer had a chimney. Without batting an eye, she said he came through the mail slot in the front door. I believed her then, but I laugh hysterically now as I reflect on that.
Thank you, Pastor Matthew, for sharing such a warm and relatable childhood memory. It brought a smile, but it also reminded me how easily children trust what they are told. As we grow, many childhood beliefs fade, but the truth of God’s Word only becomes more precious and unshakable with time. Jesus is not a childhood story we outgrow—He is the Savior we come to know more deeply each day. Thank you for using a simple memory to point us toward lasting truth. May God continue to bless your ministry and encourage many through your thoughtful reflections.
