WHY REST IS SO IMPORTANT…
As much as I wanted to post encouraging videos and posts this week on my Facebook ministry page and YouTube account, I came to a great realization – I needed rest.
Over a two-week period, I traveled roughly 2,000 miles, ministered in five services, had time with family, and saw God do some great things. After expending much physical and spiritual energy, I was spent.
Elijah experienced something much like this after the triumph at Mt. Carmel. Yes, Elijah saw a victory, but he had an adrenaline crash afterward. Many are quick to throw stones at Elijah for the depression that followed this victory, but this story teaches a great spiritual reality – Elijah needed to be refreshed by the Lord.
Elijah’s experience is repeated in the lives of believers today. We experience a victory in our life, only to have the devil right around the corner trying to tear us down. If he can’t tear us down, he will go after our family. The devil’s tactics aren’t anything new. He uses the same basic things to take out the children of God.
Rest is not a suggestion; it is a commandment. Jesus didn’t just suggest for the weary and heavy laden to come and find rest. It was imperative and still is!
Friend, take the necessary time to rest. Schedule a day of rest within your week. Take time in your day to sit down and allow the Lord to refresh you through His Word, prayer, and fellowship with believers who encourage and strengthen you. I promise you that you can’t function without it!
