What is the greatest gift someone could give you?
As I type this, I’m amazed at the answer that immediately came to mind. Money can be nice, and I won’t turn it down. Other thoughtful gifts are always appreciated. There is something special, however, about quality time.
I think this comes from the disdain for the times I have been on someone’s schedule, only for that person to rush through a meeting, lunch, or whatever so they could spend time with “more important people”. Their attention wasn’t there, and I have committed to never trying people like that. Thankfully, it’s been a long time since I’ve felt treated like that, but it’s a horrible feeling. Most of the guys I hang out with these days are going through things, and the last thing they need is someone sitting across from them whose mind is already at their next meeting.
When someone is present and cares about my welfare and bringing value to the moment while acknowledging that others bring value to the moment, it shows me how they truly view others. This shows me that people aren’t just a number or business transaction. People matter to them. Most importantly, they matter to God.
