Transparency from the heart of a pastor

Creative?

How are you creative?

When I read this blog prompts, my natural inclination is to compare myself with others and think I’m not very creative. On the other hand, I have done some unusual things in church services. Many in ministry think I’m a little over the top, but I will go the extra mile at times for people to remember the truth I seek to communicate.

One of my favorite ministry moments was during my short stent as a “church planter”. A couple in the church was getting married after the service in the venue we rented for services. The lady who was decorating asked if she could decorate before the service and leave it that way until after the wedding. It gave me a wild idea – preach about the bride of Christ.

I had the lady detain everyone in the foyer of the venue until time to start the service. At 11:00 am, we played “The Bridal Chorus” and let everyone grab a seat. I began the sermon first thing and explained to them that if they have trusted Christ, they are a part of the bride of Christ. If they have not, they can give their life to Jesus today. After the message, we sang and dismissed.

I guess I’m a little creative. When I receive those “strokes of genius”, they are a lot of fun. At the end of the day, I want my creativity to benefit others and glorify God. I pray that every ounce of creativity will do just that.
