What positive events have taken place in your life over the past year?
The positive events of the last year were born out of difficulty. When our pastor retired, things became very uncertain for me. Rather than banking on staying at my current ministry, I immediately began making other plans.
The first plan was to receive the denominational training to be an interim pastor. It is still an older pastor’s playing field, but I know God has wired me to assist churches in transition. The training proved beneficial and opened other doors.
The renewal practitioner lab became the follow up to the interim training. This was a more intense training. I dedicated 5 Monday afternoons to the cause. Interestingly, I was trained to do the very process the local association did with our church.
Another opportunity that will be ongoing is a monthly pastor cohort. Within this group, I have connected with several other great pastors in the area. I always look forward to the monthly meetings.
I must confess I have not been historically fond of many of our denominational leaders. I have found them pretentious and self-serving. When our church entered the revitalization process, I was not looking forward to my encounters with the denominational guys. I was surprised to find that the new group of rising leaders is much more authentic and compassionate. They have expressed genuine concern over my future and have offered to help.
While I would not choose the job uncertainty, I would choose the connections I’ve made and the opportunities I’ve had to grow and learn. My job description basically got decimated, and I became chaplain and resident consultant. It’s okay. I’m on assignment for King Jesus! Whatever He wants should be good enough for me.
