Church Transitions and Societal Decline

What are you most worried about for the future?

Things are ever changing! Not a single one of us can deny that. Society seems to be on the downward spiral morally, financially, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Despite some having their favorite politician in office, costs continue to rise. It is proof that no politician or party will fix what is broken. Only Jesus can do that!

The state of the modern church isn’t too promising either. Churches have become corporations, denominations have become machines, and pastor’s networks have become good ole boy systems. If I were not called to church ministry, I wouldn’t volunteer to do it. The modern church has become a far cry from the New Testament church because man thought he could improve on what God designed.

As society and the church change, I’m not sure where my place is in all this. I don’t fit the traditional or denominational framework. Add to that I’m a divorced and remarried man who had the audacity to stand by God’s call on my life in conservative Baptist circles. There is likely another coming shift for me. At age 44, following over a dozen of those shifts, I’m determined to embrace it and ride God’s waves.

Afraid? Absolutely! Wondering where the funding will come from? You bet! Assured that the same God who has cared for me for almost 45 years will continue to do so? Beyond the shadow of a doubt!

Let me take this moment to speak to those of you who are worrying about some things. Go read Matthew 6:25-34 if you have a minute. Jesus reminds us that if God takes care of the birds of the air and the flowers of the field, He will take care of you. You are precious to Him! Don’t forget it! Your spouse, children, boss, coworkers, and others in your life may not appreciate you, but God thinks you’re to die for! That’s why He sent Jesus for you! Give your heart and life to Jesus today!

  1. Amen, brother Matthew. Spoken like a true encourager! The end of Matthew chapter 6 is a great place to go to remember God is still in charge. He is still on the throne and Christ’s tomb is empty. Everything else is icing on the cake.

  2. A damn good read

  3. god bless yall
