A Leader Who Follows

Are you a leader or a follower?

Is it possible for a leader to follow? Is it possible for a follower to lead? The answer is yes to both. A leader always has someone to whom he or she is accountable. Even if the leader has no superior in a work situation, that leader is ultimately accountable to God. He or she may not choose to follow God, but that leader will ultimately bow to the Lord Jesus.

When empowered by the Lord, His followers can lead well. I have been in leadership capacities for almost three decades. Some of those were not good fits for me. I would strongly advise that you not sign up for a leadership position for which you have no calling. I have done it, and it never works well. It also never works well when your supervisor never allows you to lead.

With that said, I’m a leader who follows the Lord. When Jesus is Lord of a leader’s life, that leader is not a jerk. That leader has the Holy Spirit flowing through him/her and is willing to be taught and shown personal blind spots. A Holy Spirit filled leader is a blessing to others. My prayer for you, dear reader, is that you are a Holy Spirit filled leader. Strive to be that!
