How important is spirituality in your life?
I will probably define spirituality differently than my conservative brothers and sisters. Please remember that I am conservative. Many are so afraid of the worldly definition that they forget that the Bible uses the word “spiritual” in a positive way. With that said, I will tell how biblical spirituality is important in my life.
Romans 8:6 says, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Carnal (fleshly, worldly) is bad, but spiritual is good. The spiritual pertains to the things of the Holy Spirit.
Being biblically spiritual really is life and peace to me. Walking with God is my aim. I walk with my own thoughts every day. I battle thoughts that war against God’s desires for me. I discipline myself to think His thoughts, walking victoriously some days while stumbling on others.
Biblical spirituality begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ. This was a relationship that began for me at age six. As a first grade boy in a Christian school, I heard about the love of God expressed in His Son, Jesus Christ, dying on a cross for my sins. Jesus not only died but conquered death on the third day and is alive today. I placed my faith and trust in Him and found abundant life. I see so many people walk around feeling empty. I see it in their eyes. I see the pain from running to earthly relationship after early relationship, feeling disappointed and hurt that no fulfillment ever came from it. I see people pursue careers and six or seven figures a year still walking around empty.
I have never known a six-figure income and may never know it, but I’m rich. The Bible says that godliness with contentment is great gain. I’m blessed with a big family and my basic needs met. My future in Heaven is secure through the blood of Christ. What more could I ask for?
You ask how important spirituality is in my life. It means everything!
